10. Coed Cheerleading 3rd place finish in state 2008-2009

 The Cheerleading squad came back to Barrington last year with a 3rd place finish at the state cheerleading competition. Head Varsity Coach Laura Podolski led the team to its most successful season in Barrington Cheerleading history. The team made impressive marks in the coed competition with a score of 86.66, 4.24 points away from the state winner Elk Grove. In addition the cheerleading team was also nominated for the sportsmanship award at the State Tournament.

9. Boys’ Baseball 3rd place finish in the state 2004-2005

 The Broncos Baseball team had one of their best seasons in the history of the program. Although the Broncos did not capture the state title, they compiled 35 wins the most in Barrington Baseball history and only tallied 7 losses throughout the season. Entering the IHSA quarterfinals, the Broncos had an impressive record of 33 and 6 and defeated Springfield in the quarterfinals, but fell to Lockport in the semifinals. The Broncos righted the ship in their final game as they defeated Bartonville 11-1 to capture 3rd place.

 

8. Girls’ Tennis 2nd place finish in the state 2005-2006  

This state runner-up team was led by doubles team Kelsey Linden and Whitney Martin who were state champions. This team only dropped 2 sets throughout the entire tournament and dominated Deerfield in the tournament final winning 7-6 6-2. Also helping out the Fillies was singles player Jessica Linden and doubles team Colleen Sims and Morgan Logue who made it to the Quarterfinals and the 3rd round of the state tournament respectively. The Fillies acquired 30 points but fell just short to Deerfield who won the state tournament with 31 points. Martin and Linden finished the season with a 35-1 record.

7. Boys’ Volleyball 2nd place finish in the state 2004-2005

 The Broncos Volleyball team’s 2nd place finish was the best in the history of the program. Led by head coach Kathleen Russell-Rizzo, the Broncos racked up 33 wins and only 3 losses. Barrington dominated its regular season schedule comfortably winning conference. The team won regionals and sectionals, and entered the state quarterfinals with a record of 31 and 2. The Broncos defeated a tough Aurora team in three sets in the quarterfinals, the Broncos then won another tough game against Oak Park River Forest in three sets as well. The Broncos dominance in three setters would not hold true though as they were defeated by Wheaton Warrenville South 20-25, 26-24, 23-25 in the state finals.

 

6. Girls’ Volleyball back-to-back 2nd place finishes in state 2002-2003, 2003-2004.

 Led by head coach Karen Traub, the Fillies had two incredible years with records of 35-7 and 37-6. Both teams were rarely challenged as the majority of their games were straight set wins. When they were defeated, most of their losses went the distance to three sets. In the 02-03 playoffs the girls handled Marian High School and Normal winning 15-6, 10-15, 15-5 and 15-10, 16-14 respectively. They fought hard in the title but came up short losing to Downers Grove South 15-13, 15-11. Leading the Fillies through the 02-03 season was Laura Holloway as she accumulated 304 kills. In the 03-04 playoffs the Fillies took care of Naperville North in the quarters and Bellville Althoff in the semis. They fell in the final though 26-24, 25-18 to Joliet Catholic in the final. The Fillies were again led by Laura Holloway who had 291 kills in 03-04.

 

5. Girls’ Softball back-to-back 2nd  Place finishes in 2006-2007, 2007-2008

 The Girls’ Softball team dominated Illinois softball during these two seasons as they were just two wins away from being state champions both seasons. The Fillies were led by Head Coach Perry Peterson and accumulated 2 extremely impressive records 37 wins and 4 losses in 06-07, and 32 wins and 7 losses in 07-08. During the 06-07 playoffs, the Fillies took out Lincoln-Way East and Downers Grove South 2-1 and 2-0 respectively, but in the state finals they were defeated by Normal 1-0. In the 07-08 playoffs the Fillies beat Lake Park 6-1 in the semifinals, but they were finally taken out by Lincoln-Way Central 4-1. The Fillies were led through these years by pitchers Claire Voris and Kim Cygan who had records of 34-2 and 29-6 respectively. The Fillies have had a lot of success this decade with multiple 3rd place finishes as well.

4. Boys’ Lacrosse State Championship 2001

The Bronco Lacrosse team took home the state title in 2001 after a perfect 18-0 season winning not only the state championship but the Western Conference title as well. Led by team captains Ben Brown, Kevin Quinn, and Jay Wolfrgram, the Broncos dominated their opponents throughout the season. With wins over top teams such as New Trier, Glenbrook South, Oak Park, Libertyville, and Loyola, the Broncos coasted into the state tournament with loads of confidence. They used this momentum to defeat Libertyville 14-7 in the semifinal and Loyola in the final 10-6. This will be remembered as one of the better teams in BHS sports history.
